Planned for the Future?‏

Shared Sept. 12th 2014

You know, God is love but He is also the Righteous Judge and He has, in all fairness, warned us, mankind, in His Word, the Bible, that there is life after death. He has promised that after death there is going to be judgment. He says in Hebrews 9:27 that “It is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment.” After the judgment, you either go to hell or heaven.

I came across an article on the web which I found interesting. According to the article, “In the spring of 1981, a young man was flown into desolate northern Alaska to photograph the natural beauty and mysteries of the tundra. He took along 500 rolls of film, several firearms, and 1,400 pounds of provisions.

“As the months passed, the words in his diary changed from wonder and fascination into a nightmare. In August he wrote, ‘I think I should have used more foresight about arranging my departure. I’ll soon find out.’ In November he died in a nameless valley, by a nameless lake, 225 miles northeast of Fairbanks. An investigation revealed that though he had carefully planned and mapped his venture, he failed to made any provision to be flown out of the area.” The New York Times (December 19, 1982) has a more detailed, chilling version.

Now, try to imagine it. But difficult to imagine isn’t it? You can’t help but ask yourself, “How could anyone be so wise to make all these plans yet be quite foolish to miss something so important in his planning? Or, how could he even be this forgetful? He made every provision for his journey except how to get home! Truly incredible. Just unbelievable!

“What a loss! How sad! How tragic,” one may say but beloved, just look around. Seriously. So many of us make detailed provisions for our daily life here on earth but somehow we ignore the most important thing: preparation for our departure from this world. All, every single one of us needs to think about our future and consequently make specific plans for our departure from this life. If we fail to do so, we will for sure be left in a predicament worse than that young man! Remember, the Summer is past but it is not too late!

As our scripture in the first paragraph says, God has warned us in His Holy Word, the Bible, that there is life after death, and after that comes God’s own judgment. There is a way out of this judgment though, and that way leads to eternal life with God; the way is through Jesus Christ, God’s own Son. Jesus Himself said, as recorded by His disciple John: “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me” (John 14:6). What a bold claim to make! No other person after whom a religion is named has or can ever make such a claim! Only Jesus. And because of His great love for us, Jesus died on the cross for our sins so that we might live with Him for all eternity (Who died for us, that, whether we wake or sleep, we should live together with him,1 Thessalonians 5:10).

So, just as He warned the people and the nation of Israel to prepare to meet Him, God, (Therefore thus will I do unto thee, O Israel: and because I will do this unto thee, prepare to meet thy God, O Israel, Amos 4:12) so today He’s given us a similar chance, warning us to prepare to meet Him. Beloved, if you haven’t yet done so you ought to be ready today, not tomorrow, because the next minute is not guaranteed you. On September 11, 2001, it was a regular day for thousands; but we know what happened. After death it is just too late.

So we need to ask ourselves, “How do we prepare to meet God?” Here’s the answer: by confessing our sins to Him, repenting of our sinful ways/lifestyle and accepting His Son, Jesus, as our personal Lord and Saviour. Doing this means we have obtained our passport and visa to heaven and to eternal life with Christ. You can leave earth with a passport (fake) but you can never enter heaven without a Christ-issued passport! The summer is past and the autumn is here and so whatever you do, don’t leave earth without this passport.

To help you do this, accept God’s Invitation by visiting the “Plan of Salvation” when you click on the following link:

Proposed prayer: “Dear God, You are the Righteous Judge who will judge all of mankind one day. Please help me to make sure that I take advantage of this life, right now, so that I don’t leave this life without securing my passport for Heaven. I want to prepare for the eternal life that lies beyond death. Thank You for hearing and answering my prayer, in Jesus’ name. Amen.”

Have a wonderful weekend and a prosperous post-Summer.
