Renewed Hope, Renewed Focus – January 5, 2014

It is still a new year, which could mean or be a new beginning. Such a position, such a threshold of unknown and untapped future could represent a new opportunity because it is a gateway to change and a renewed focus. But you cannot do it alone. You need God by your side and to lead the way.

God! What an awesome thought and such reassurance. God! There are many gods out there being worshipped by whole swathes of people so let me clarify. By God, I mean Jesus the Christ. He is unchanging and He has promised us this, that “I will instruct you and teach you in the way which you should go; I will guide you with my own eye,” Psalm 32:8.

Think about the rest of this year. Start with thinking about the rest of today, or week or month and you know immediately that you do not have any control at all over even the next minute. As a matter of fact the next second is not even guaranteed you. So when God says “I will instruct you and teach you in the way which you should go; I will guide you with my own eye,” your hope should be renewed as should be your focus.

A new year, a new beginning! Maybe you are excited or apprehensive due to experiences holding over from last year. Though there may be possibilities of failure, new beginnings with your hope in God’s should be exciting. Your faith in God and your trust in His Word should be the anchor that establishes you and positions you for a bright future.

Do you remember the Sunday school song “He holds the whole world, in His hand”? Well, if God’s Word says I will instruct you and teach you in the way which you should go; I will guide you with my own eye,” then it means He holds your entire destiny in His Omnipotent hand. Look at what Jesus said to His disciples: 14You are my friends if you do what I command you. 16You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you that you should go and bear fruit and that your fruit should abide, so that whatever you ask the Father in my name, he may give it to you, (John 15:14, 16).

What is the key to an exciting and year? What is the key to a renewed hope and a renewed focus? What is the key to ensuring that whatever you ask the Father in my name, he may give it to you? Obedience.

Forget about what the prosperity people espouse. Do not let their teaching and preaching distract you from a focus on the Word of God. Do not allow them to sell you a cheap gospel. You see, there is untold satisfaction in reading God’s Word, fighting on your knees and holding on to God’s unchanging hand.

So then, this is my word to you: start practicing the presence of God and continue this brand new year with a stark awareness of God’s presence in your life, knowing that He will instruct you and teach you in the way which you should go,” knowing that He “will guide you with my own eye.” Is that not an awesome thought and such reassurance?

This is another word from me to you: work and pray faithfully in all things. See this new year as starting over because “he who was seated on the throne said, “Behold, I am making all things new.” Also he said, “Write this down, for these words are trustworthy and true,” (Revelation 21:5).

Yes, write this down, “I will instruct you and teach you in the way which you should go; I will guide you with my own eye”; memorize it too. God is unchanging and His Word endures forever.

And now, this is my final word to you, extracted from 2 Samuel 23:2, 5 – 2The Spirit of the Lord speaks by me; his word is on my tongue. 5For does not my house stand so with God? For he has made with me an everlasting covenant, ordered in all things and secure. For will he not cause to prosper
all my help and my desire?

Everything is ordered and secure so have a solid renewed hope, a steadfast renewed focus for this year. The Lord be praised. Amen!
