What Makes You Rich? – Pt. 3

Shared January 25th, 2015
Still on the topic “What makes you rich?” let us look at it from a different angle. Thus our scripture for today is “For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?” (Mark 8:36)
Look today at the Western world which accepted the Gospel and ran with it, building its very own foundation and entire culture on the Word of God. Let me introduce a brief history of how the Gospel of Jesus Christ landed in Europe (i.e. the West). The apostle Paul was for some time in Antioch before he set out on one of his missionary journeys to visit the Churches of Syria and Cilicia. He then travelled through Lycaonia, Galatia, and some other parts of Asia Minor. But then sometime in the spring of A.D.52 he was directed in a vision (Acts 16) to pass over into Greece (this was some 21 years after the crucifixion of Christ). Obeying the vision, Paul, the Apostle of/to the Gentiles for the very first time entered Europe bringing with him the Gospel, (i.e. the Good News of Christ).
Thus Paul started his ministry (Acts 15) in this new sphere of labour of love, proclaiming the message of Christ’s free offer of salvation to the inhabitants of Philippi, a city of Macedonia, also a Roman colony. As a matter of fact the gospel flame spread from Jerusalem to Judea, Samaria, Caesarea, Tyre, Sidon, Ethiopia, Syria, Cilicia, and Galatia before the flame finally spread to Europe. And by the way, Philippi was named after Philip of Macedon, the father of Alexander the Great.
Today, the Western world, influenced by affluence, a so-called “modernity,” and unchecked liberalism, is opposing the exclusive claim of Christianity that Jesus Christ alone is the Saviour. Rather, Westerners are claiming that either religion (hint: Christianity) is poisonous (so ban Christmas, etc) or that every religion can save mankind. Just a reminder that we are talking about “What makes you rich?”
You see, there is no “richness,” no wealth outside of Christ. And similarly, there is no salvation outside of Christ. He alone is the way, the truth, and the life. He is the one who gives us strength to make wealth. He is our wealth! Right now, the West has become, or is quickly becoming desperately poor. Look at one small, very small example: a lone gunman kills his mum and some twenty little daycare level children in the most powerful country in the world and this most powerful country in the world cannot do anything about it! Or is unwilling to do anything about it!
Look at what happened in the capital of Canada. The whole world was aware, as it was announced, that moslem terrorists had struck horror and terror into the hearts of Canadians when a soldier on sentry duty was shot (previously another soldier had been killed) and then this messenger of satan who did the killing went on to storm Canada’s parliament, the seat of government. What happened thereafter? Sure, this individual was killed. But is that all? No!
No, because if you tuned in to the news (no matter where you are on the planet, you can) you will learn that local Ottawa imams, in interviews with local Ottawa media claimed that since the attack on Canada’s parliament, they had received twenty, yes 20 calls from people who wanted to convert to islam; this, in addition to the 10-20 calls a week/or month (as the imams claim) that they receive from people enquiring about islam (for whatever reason people enquire, I do not know). What makes you rich, islam? Evolution? Euthanasia? Humanism? Naturalism?
Abortion? O, how are the mighty fallen? How did the West, bearing the torch of God’s salvation (and true, I admit that they misused and abused the Gospel in so many ways and on many cultures) stray so far from what truly made it rich and powerful? Weren’t these prestigious academic institutions Harvard, Princeton, Yale, Cambridge, Oxford, once Christian? What happened? Oh, look at the lack of morality everywhere. Look at the corporate corruption. Look at how judges-turned-politicians are driving public policy. They are judges and they are dictating policy! And oh, look at the weak and spineless politicians that we have today, who cannot even defend a single letter of the word Bible (if they even know what the Bible is) and so follow judges’ policymaking decisions!!!
What makes us rich, freedom to do what is wrong? Citizens running off and fully embracing a terror-originated, terror-based, terror-striking, religion and using it as their guide? Yes, What makes you rich?” Beloved, ponder this question. TBC.
Proposed prayer: Heavenly Father, we are all sinners and You require of us to obey and follow You. satan’s deception has reached far, but I am not surprised because you said so, that there will be a time when men will be lovers of themselves, putting evil for good and good for evil. Please Lord, strengthen me in my walk with You. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen!
